Bulova’s most famous Art Deco design of the 1920s, the “Lone Eagle” has stylized eagle heads set in hard black enamel in each corner. Originally introduced around 1926 as the “Conqueror,” this model was renamed the “Lone Eagle” for Charles Lindbergh following his historic solo crossing of the Atlantic in May of 1927. It was priced at $50.00 in 1928. Lindbergh personally endorsed the watch and advertisements for the watch featured Lindbergh and his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis, quite prominently along with his testimonial. This example is in excellent condition with no brassing, just a little wear under the lugs. Black enamel inlay is excellent, with no chips or cracks. Caseback is excellent and unengraved with a broken hinge pin, but the case snaps together crisply. Case measures 32mm long and 26mm wide. Refinished luminous dial is superb. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 17-jewel Bulova grade 9AT manual wind movement, just serviced and running well.
