Scarce Elgin “Mermaid” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K white gold fill, circa 1929.
Catalogued as the “Touchdown 202” in Elgin sales material, watch collectors refer to this watch “Mermaid” because of the fantastic mermaids and seahorses engraved on the bezel. One the classic Elgin rarities, it is a must-have for any serious American Art Deco watch collection. This example is in very good condition showing some brassing in each bezel corner. Caseback is excellent and unengraved. Original dial is excellent, has gold embossed numerals and a few faint scratches. Has new glass crystal. This watch has a 7-jewel Elgin grade 447 movement.
