Scarce Elgin “Oval Engraved” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K green gold fill, circa 1929.

I’ve had a half dozen or so of this model, but only one other with this dial containing stylized black enamel painted numerals. This striking model was catalogued as the “Model 664,” but most Elgin collectors refer to it as the “Oval” due to its remarkable resemblance to the Hamilton “Oval.” Indeed, the Elgin “Oval” and the Hamilton “Oval” were both produced by the Fahys Watch Case Co. It was priced at $48.00 in 1929. This example is in excellent condition with only a very faint line of brassing on one bezel edge. Caseback is excellent and unengraved, with two small spots of wear. Case measures 37mm long and 28mm wide. Original silvered dial is superb, has black enamel painted numerals. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Elgin grade 428 movement.
