Scarce Hamilton “Piping Rock” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in solid 14K yellow gold with black enamel bezel and original box, circa 1929.
Among the most recognizable and sought-after of the early Hamilton models, the “Piping Rock” has fantastic Art Deco stylized Roman numerals set in black enamel and hinged lugs that flex to make the watch more comfortable on the wrist. Considered by some to be the most beautiful American wristwatch every produced, it belongs in every serious Hamilton collection. The “Piping Rock” was named for the exclusive Piping Rock Country Club on Long Island, which opened in 1912. With only 3,815 examples produced in 14k yellow gold, it is a fairly scarce watch today. This example is in excellent condition showing only very slight wear to the gold case. Enamel is excellent and complete, with only a few faint marks. Caseback is superb and unengraved. Case measures 43mm long and 29mm wide. Dial has been beautifully restored to its correct original appearance with a silver Butler finish. Has new crystal. The watch is powered by its original 19 jewel Hamilton grade 979 adjusted movement. Original box is excellent.
