Very scarce Hamilton “Brooke” men’s Streamline Moderne design wristwatch in 14K yellow gold fill, circa 1938.
The “Brooke” was one of the earliest asymmetrical wristwatches offered by Hamilton and has a super sleek, trapezoidal case that is wider at the bottom, but with the top of the dial angled higher to make the time easier to see. This extraordinary, radical design was apparently not popular with consumers and was catalogued only in 1938. It is very scarce today. Its rather thick, angled case makes it prone to heavy wear, but this example is above average, with just a little brassing to the top lugs. Curved caseback is excellent and unengraved, with just a small amount of wear at the opening tab and the underside of the lugs. The case measures 40mm long and 23mm wide. Dial has been beautifully refinished to its correct original appearance with a two-tone silver Butler and parchment white finish and solid 18K gold applied numerals. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its original 17 jewel Hamilton grade 980 movement.
