Scarce Illinois “Chieftain” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K white gold fill, circa 1929.
With its striking Art Deco Southwestern-inspired geometric bezel designs, the “Chieftain” is one of the most sought-after Illinois wristwatch designs. The “Chieftain” was priced to consumers at a modest $40.00 in 1929. This example is in crisp, excellent condition with only a small speck of brassing in each bezel corner. it has none of the usual heavy wear along the top and bottom edges of the bezel. It is one of the nicest examples of a “Chieftain” I have ever offered. Caseback is excellent and unengraved, with a few tiny dings. The case measures 33mm long and 28mm wide. Refinished two-tone dial is superb. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Illinois grade 903 movement.
