Hamilton “Automatic K-454” men’s Space Age design wristwatch in 10K gold fill with stainless steel back, circa 1955.
The Hamilton “Automatic K-454” is often referred to as the “Sputnik” for its futuristic Space Age design and was priced to consumers at $89.50 in 1955. This model was chosen for the character Pete Campbell to wear on the television series “Mad Men.” The actual watch worn in the series just sold for over $4,000. This example is in excellent condition with no brassing. Screwdown caseback is excellent and unengraved. The case measures and 41mm long and 34mm wide. Refinished dial is superb. Has luminous dots and gold inlaid rays that match the lugs. Has new acrylic crystal. Movement is a 17-jewel Hamilton grade 661 automatic.
