Very rare Hamilton “Rectangular” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in solid 18K white gold, circa 1932.

The Rectangular is one of the rarest Hamilton models known to exist and is a model of historical significance to Hamilton collectors.  Never part of any of Hamilton’s regular catalogues, it was introduced mid-year as an addition to Hamilton’s 1927 offerings.  A mere 249 were produced in white gold.  It featured a large, hand-chased case made by the Solidarity Watch Case Company, who would later produced cases for the “Langley,“ “Pinehurst,” and “Oakmont” models.  The dial was also manufactured by Solidarity and was made of solid sterling silver with hard-fired inlaid black enamel tracks and numerals.  Extraordinarily expensive, it was priced at $125.00 in 1927.  This example is in excellent condition showing only light wear.  Caseback is excellent, with an elaborate presentation engraving from 1932.  Case measures 39mm long and 28mm wide.  Two-tone exploding numeral dial is very good.  The watch is powered by its correct 17 jewel Hamilton grade 987-F movement.
