Scarce Hamilton “Flight II” men’s Space Age design wristwatch in 10K yellow gold fill, with original Hamilton signed strap and buckle, circa 1960.
Among the most sought-after of Hamilton’s fantastic asymmetrical designs of the 1950s and 1960s, the “Flight I” and “Flight II” models have bold, Space Age cases with a large boomerang lug attachment at the top. The boomerang attachment has a textured finish that is continued onto the left side of the case. The “Flight I” model was solid gold, while the “Flight II” model was gold-filled. Priced at $95.00 in 1960, the “Flight II” apparently was not a popular watch among consumers, and is difficult to find today. Rene Rondeau estimates production at a mere 2,400 pieces. This example is in crisp, excellent condition with only very light wear to the highpoints of the bezel. Caseback is excellent and unengraved, with a touch of wear underneath the crown and a speck of wear in one corner. The case measures 34mm long and 37mm wide. Dial has been restored to its correct, original appearance with a light gold champagne finish and 14K solid gold markers. Has new acrylic crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 22 jewel Hamilton grade 770 movement. Original signed Hamilton strap and buckle are superb.
