Rare Elgin “Aztec” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in nickel, circa 1933.
Elgin catalogued this watch as the “Senior 952,” but its fantastic geometric black-inlaid bezel designs, possibly inspired by the carvings on ancient Aztec temples in Mexico has caused most collectors to dub it the “Aztec.” It is a very difficult watch to find and among the most desirable of all Elgin wristwatches. This example is in crisp, near mint condition with no wear. It is the finest “Aztec” I have ever offered. The caseback is superb and unengraved. The case measures 35mm long and 25mm wide. Dial is superb. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 7 jewel Elgin grade 488 movement.
