Very rare Lord Elgin “Model 4501” men’s Retro Moderne design wristwatch in solid platinum, circa 1942.
The “Model 4501” is one of the few platinum watches made by Elgin. Priced at $225.00 in 1942, it is very rare and this is one of only a handful I’ve seen. It is much rarer than its Hamilton contemporary, the “Rutledge.” It has a rectangular case with faceted, hooded lugs. This example is in excellent condition showing almost no wear, just a few light scratches. Case still retains is factory-applied alternating polished and brushed finish. The case measures 36mm long and 20mm wide. Original dial is excellent. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 21 jewel Elgin grade 538 adjusted movement.
