Very rare Elgin “Diamond Presentation” men’s Streamline Moderne design wristwatch in solid 14K yellow gold with diamond dial, circa 1942.

Few collectors realize that Elgin produced high-end, factory-cased platinum and diamond dial men’s wristwatches during the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s.  Despite Elgin’s high quality, its primary appeal with most consumers was with medium grade and inexpensive models in gold fill and base metal cases.  Consequently, any of the platinum and diamond dial Elgin men's models are extremely rare.  I have seen the catalog illustration of this watch, but this is the only actual example I have ever seen.  This factory-cased watch has a long curved case, with a subtle step between the lugs.  It is in excellent condition showing only light wear and one tiny ding to the lower right lug.  Curved caseback is excellent and unengraved.  Case measures 44mm long and 21mm wide.  Dial has been beautifully restored to its correct original appearance with a silver Butler finish and diamond inlaid numerals and markers.  Has new glass crystal.  The watch is powered by its correct 17 jewel Elgin grade 483 movement.
