Rare Elgin “Enamel Thrift 440” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in chromium nickel with black enamel bezel, circa 1931.
The “440” was part of the less-expensive “Thrift” series of watches, and was priced at $24.75 in 1931. It is quite rare and difficult to find in nice condition. This example is in excellent condition showing only light wear. Black enamel is excellent and complete with only some minor chips. Caseback is excellent, with a hand inscribed monogram and date. The case measures 38mm long and 31mm wide. Original dial is good. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 7 jewel Elgin grade 485 movement.
