Rare Elgin “Doctor‘s Model 1117” Streamline Moderne design doctor’s wristwatch in two-tone 14K white and yellow gold fill, circa 1934.

The earliest model of Elgin’s rectangular doctor’s watch, this watch was offered in a two-tone case for a only a brief time, priced at $40.00. Starting about 1935, the watch was offered in yellow only, and eventually renamed the “William Osler” in honor of the famed Canadian physician who was instrumental in the growth of The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. This early version has a large rectangular seconds register unusually centered on the main dial in which seconds can be read by the means of the red-tipped hand, making it ideal for use by doctors to record pulsations. This example is in crisp, excellent condition with a minor touch of brassing to the tips of the lugs. Caseback is excellent, with a simple monogram. Refinished dial is superb. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 7 jewel Elgin grade 514 rectangular movement.
