The Gruen “Pan American” was originally produced around 1943 exclusively for Pan American Airways pilots during World War II. The “Pan American” watches were produced for public sale beginning in late 1945, with numerous variations produced. This example is a Swiss import model housed in a stainless case. It is in crisp, excellent condition showing almost no wear. Steel caseback is excellent and unengraved, with some scratches. The case measures 38mm long and 32mm wide. Original two-tone black and gray dial is excellent, has silver inlaid numerals. Has new acrylic crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 17 jewel Gruen grade 420SS Veri-Thin Precision movement.
