Scarce Gruen “Curvex Ristside Fraternity” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in 10K yellow gold fill, circa 1950.

Scarce and highly desirable, the “Ristside Fraternity” is one of Gruen’s most dramatic Curvex models. The large, stepped hinged lugs prompt many collectors to refer to it as the “Bat Watch” or “Angel Wing Watch.” The hinged lugs allow the watch to be worn in a conventional manner on top of the wrist, or as a driver’s watch on the side of the wrist… hence the name “Ristside.” It was priced to consumers at $71.50 in 1950. This example in very good condition with only very light wear to the top edges of the lugs. Curved caseback is very good and unengraved, with some wear in the corners and at the opening tab. Lugs show some wear on the underside. Case measures 47mm long and 24mm wide. Original black dial is excellent. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 17 jewel Gruen grade 440 Precision Curvex movement.
