Very scarce Hamilton “Barrel” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K white gold fill, circa 1927.
This is the original version of the “Barrel” produced for Hamilton by the Wadsworth Watch Case Co. with flush case sides and a flat case back. It was produced only in the first few months of 1927 and a mere 1,776 were produced in white gold fill, making it a very scarce watch. In July of 1927, this Wadsworth “Barrel” was replaced by a new version made by the Fahys Watch Case Co. with flared case sides and a curved case back. The “Barrel” was priced to consumers at $55.00 in 1927. This example is in very good condition with just a light amount of brassing in the bezel corners and a touch to the lugs. Caseback is excellent and unengraved, with a few light dings. Case measures 35mm long and 28mm wide. Dial has been beautifully restored to its correct original appearance with a silver Butler finish and bold, Art Deco luminous numerals and hands. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 17 jewel Hamilton grade 987 movement.
