Benrus “Babe Ruth” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K white gold fill, circa 1929.
In the 1920s, Benrus marketed its watches as “The Strap Watch of Sportsmen” and named this model for New York Yankee legend Babe Ruth. Advertisements of the time noted that Ruth even wore this model during games, due to its rugged “Shockproof” construction. It was priced at $39.75 in 1929. It is crisp, excellent condition with no plating wear. Caseback is excellent and unengraved with some minor marks and scratches. The case measures 34mm long and 27mm wide. Original luminous dial is very good, with some patina and finish loss. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Benrus Shockproof manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
