Very rare Elgin “Presentation 836” men’s Streamline Moderne design wristwatch in solid two-tone 14K green and white gold, circa 1931.

The watches in the “Presentation” series were Elgin’s top-of-the-line solid gold men’s wristwatches in the late 1920s and 1930s.  Elgin’s appeal to consumers during the Great Depression was with low-cost chrome and gold-filled watches.  Consequently, solid gold Elgin men’s wristwatches from this time period are quite scarce.  This two-tone version of the “Presentation” model is very rare; it is the only two-tone example I have ever seen.  It has a sleek triple-stepped case with recessed crown, in alternating colors of green and white gold.  This example is in excellent condition showing only light overall wear.  Caseback is excellent and unengraved.  Case measures 36mm long and 24mm wide.  Dial is very good, and is solid silver with applied solid gold numerals, very unusual for Elgin.  Glass crystal is excellent.  The watch is powered by its correct 17 jewel Elgin grade 483 movement.
