Benrus “Gene Tunney” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in white rolled plate, circa 1928.

Benrus named this watch for the dashing Gene Tunney (1897 to 1981), who was the undefeated world heavyweight boxing champion from 1926 to 1928, and who defeated the renown Jack Dempsey in the famous “Battle of the Long Count” at Soldier Field in Chicago in 1927. The watch was priced at $35.00 in 1928. It is crisp, excellent condition with no plating wear. Hinged caseback is superb and unengraved. The case measures 38mm long and 27mm wide. Refinished luminous dial is superb. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Benrus Shockproof manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
