Scarce Elgin “Model 1602” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in solid 14K white gold, circa 1928.
Early solid gold men’s Elgin wristwatches are quite scarce, as the company focused its marketing efforts on lower cost gold-filled and nickel cased watches. The “Model 1602” has a simple barrel-shaped case with Art Deco engravings around the bezel and sold for $50.00 in 1928. The dial has unique gold embossed exploding numerals set against a subtle sand-textured gray background. It is in excellent condition showing only slight wear. Caseback is excellent and unengraved. Case measures 34mm long and 27mm wide. Original dial is superb. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 15 jewel Elgin grade 428 movement.
