Very rare Elgin “Mermaid” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K white gold fill, circa 1927.
Officially known as the “Touchdown 202” in Elgin sales material, watch collectors have simply renamed this watch “Mermaid” because of the fantastic mermaids and seahorses engraved on the bezel. One the classic Elgin rarities, it is a must-have for any serious American Art Deco watch collection. This example is from my personal collection and is the finest specimen I have ever seen of the “Mermaid.” It is in near mint condition with no brassing or wear. The mermaid and sea horse designs are sharp and crisp. Caseback is superb and unengraved. Dial has been beautifully refinished to its correct original appearance with a parchment white finish and luminous dots and hands. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 15 jewel Elgin grade 444 movement.
