Rare Elgin “Touchdown 229” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in solid 14K white gold, circa 1927.

This fantastic Elgin is quite rare, I have only seen 3 or 4 other examples.  It has ornate Art Deco engravings on the bezel, case sides, and lugs.  It was produced by the Solidarity Watch Case Co., a boutique case manufacturer which specialized in precious metal watch cases and produced other Art Deco wristwatch rarities such as the 18K gold Hamilton "Rectangular" and 14K gold Illinois "Consul" during the late 1920s.  This example is in crisp, excellent condition showing no wear.  Engraved designs are bold and crisp.  Hinged caseback is excellent and bears a presentation engraving from Christmas of 1931.  Hinge pin is broken, but case snaps together crisply and firmly.  The case measures 38mm long and 25mm wide.  Dial is superb.  Has new glass crystal.  The watch is powered by its correct 15 jewel Elgin grade 444 movement.
