Rare Elgin “Madame Premet” ladies’ Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K white gold fill with green enamel, circa 1928.
In the 1920s, no other watch manufacturer could match Elgin’s Art Deco designs for ladies’ wristwatches. Elgin retained top designers of international prominence to create some fantastic designs. This variety of Elgin’s “Parisienne” series was named for the famous design house of Premet in Paris. The “Premet” is a scarce watch even in black, but is especially rare in either green or red; this is the first green one I have ever offered for sale. This watch is in crisp, near mint condition and was worn very little, if at all. Case shows absolutely no wear and the bezel still bears its original factory-applied brushed finish. Caseback is superb and unengraved, with all of its brushed finish. The case measures 30mm long and 17mm wide. Original dial is crisp and excellent. Original silk grosgrain ribbon and white gold filled buckle show no wear. Glass crystal is excellent. This watch is powered by its correct 7 jewel Elgin grade 488 movement.
