Gruen Pan American Navigator men’s Retro Modern design wristwatch in two-tone 10K pink gold fill and steel, circa 1945.
The Gruen “Pan American” was originally produced around 1943 exclusively for Pan American Airways pilots during World War II. The “Pan American” watches were produced for public sale beginning in late 1945, with numerous variations produced. This is one of the more unusual and attractive variants with a stainless steel case and pink gold filled bezel and lugs. It was priced to consumers at $39.75 in 1945. It is in excellent condition with just a few specks of brassing to the edges of the lugs. Underside of lugs show some wear. Steel caseback is excellent and unengraved. The case measures 38mm long and 32mm wide. Original two-tone pink and black 24-hour dial is excellent. Has new acrylic crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 17 jewel Gruen grade 420SS Veri-Thin movement.
